A homily for The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, June 12, 2022
Prv 8:22-31, Rom 5:1-5, Jn 16:12-15
Everything.
Everything for everyone, everywhere.
The Holy Trinity of One God in Three Persons is a beautiful mystery that often invites deep, powerful theological pondering by people who acknowledge that pretty much all of us can’t fully get our heads around the immensity and complexity of God.
So we won’t try. Not today, anyway. Not in this space.
Let’s be simpler.
The Father created everything, including (and especially) us, for us.
The Son restored humankind’s relationship with the Divine after our ancestors abused free will.
The Holy Spirit continues to give humans the grace, strength and wisdom to maintain our connection to God.
Together, the Trinity is the perfect model of a perfect relationship. Pure love. Absolutely unselfish. Totally devoted to giving. The source of justice and its ultimate arbiter.
Our Triune God is the perfect example of everything that is good.
Everything.
So: No matter what we — God’s children — decide to think or say or do, we should think or say or do it in the hope that it comes close to Godly.
Loving.
God gave us everything, and we say thanks by preserving Creation and sharing Creation.
As pure and holy as possible.
